Survey says...
Since the mid 1990s, the ASVAB Career Exploration Program has
provided high quality, cost-free career exploration and
planning materials and services to high schools across the nation.
From surveys of participating
students, we learned the following:
76% of the students who participated did so because of their
interest in making appropriate post- high school career and
educational plans.
31% of the students who participated did so because of their
interest in military service.
62% of those who participated reported that the ASVAB Program helped
them to connect their skills and interests with appropriate career
choices.
63% of those who participated say the ASVAB Program helped them to
consider careers they had not thought about before.
The ASVAB Career Exploration Program enables students to learn more about
themselves and the world of work so that they can make informed career
decisions.

Exploring Careers: The ASVAB
Career Exploration Guide — A guide with activities to help students
discover their interests and explore occupations by interest area.
Military Careers — A guide describing
military occupations, training, advancement opportunities, and employment
for Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard careers. A website,
www.careersinthemilitary.com, provides more comprehensive information about
each career field.
My Educational
and Career Plans
— A guided exercise to help students make initial career plans and
evaluate their current program of study and consider courses that will
be career enhancing. It helps them:
Consider skills they have developed outside of school
Assess, in more
detail, what they are looking for in an occupation
Develop “next
steps” for realizing their tentative career choices
Evaluate their
current program of study and consider courses that will be career
enhancing.
Coursework
Planner — An activity to assist students with planning the
remainder of their high school curriculum to best meet their career
goals.
Idea Sheets — A series of guided
exercises and activities that educators can use to incorporate career
exploration activities into the classroom.
